Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of readonce (the “Service”), operated by Bitmule LLC (“we”, “us”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
readonce lets you share a message through an end-to-end encrypted, one-time link. Content is encrypted in your browser; the decryption key travels in the link fragment and never reaches our servers, so we cannot read what you share. A secret is shown once and then destroyed, or it expires unopened after the deadline you choose. The Service is provided free of charge.
2. Eligibility & accounts
You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live (and at least 13). An account is optional. If you create one, you are responsible for your credentials and for activity under your account. Keep your password safe; we store only a securely hashed version and cannot recover it for you.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- share or facilitate anything unlawful, or that infringes or harms others;
- distribute malware, or transmit content you have no right to transmit;
- abuse, overload, probe, or attempt to circumvent the security or rate limits of the Service;
- access it through automated means for bulk or abusive purposes.
You are solely responsible for the content you encrypt and share and for who you share it with.
4. Your secrets and passphrases
The Service is intentionally unrecoverable by design. You are responsible for delivering the one-time link and any passphrase to your intended recipient through channels you trust. We cannot recover a secret, link, or passphrase. A secret is permanently destroyed on first read and cannot be shown again; an unopened secret is deleted when it expires. If a link or passphrase is lost, intercepted, or read by the wrong person, the content is gone or exposed and we cannot help. The Service is not a storage, backup, or delivery-guarantee service.
5. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, error-free, or that any secret will be delivered, read, or retained for any period. You use the Service at your own risk.
6. Assumption of risk
You acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of a one-time, zero-knowledge, unrecoverable system, including the risk of a secret being lost, expiring unread, being read prematurely or by an unintended party, and the risk of downtime or data loss. You are responsible for deciding whether the Service is appropriate for your needs.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, secrets, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business, arising out of or relating to the Service, even if advised of the possibility. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service (which is US$0) or US$50.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, and expenses arising out of your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms or of any law or the rights of a third party.
9. Changes & termination
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (in whole or in part) at any time, and may suspend or terminate access that violates these Terms. We may update these Terms; if we do, we will change the date above, and your continued use means you accept the update.
10. Governing law
The Service is operated from the United States by Bitmule LLC. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Oregon for any dispute, regardless of where you access the Service.
